Christmas Gift Shoppers Online Appear To Show A Clear Bias For Men Over Women And Children

Press release from: Amazing-Christmas-Ideas.com

Dallas, TX December 22, 2005 -- A study conducted recently shows that more Internet shoppers appear to favor buying Christmas gifts for men more than buying gifts for women and surprisingly even children.

The study (carried out by www.Amazing-Christmas-Ideas.com) reveals that during this Christmas season there is an estimated 969 searches for phrases related to Christmas gifts for men on all the major search engines on a daily basis.

That’s 42.5% more often than phrases related to Christmas gifts for women, which are searched for an estimated 680 times a day on average during the current holiday season.

On the surface these results appear to show that men are the preferred recipients of Christmas gifts. But Keith Hardaway of Amazing-Christmas-Ideas.com sees it a little differently. He says, “To me this just shows that women are more dedicated to finding great gifts for their husbands or boyfriends than men are about finding gifts for their wives or girlfriends.”

Hardaway backs that theory up with examples of other phrases searched for by Internet Christmas shoppers. For example, the phrase “Christmas gifts for him” is searched for about 11.5% more often than “Christmas gifts for her.” He also found a total of 76 different variations of phrases related to Christmas gifts for men. For women there were only 55 different variations of phrases.

But, the really surprising thing that came from this study is the number of times Internet shoppers search for phrases related to Christmas gifts for kids. During a holiday in which our culture focuses so much attention on making things special for children the logical assumption would be that the majority of gift related searches would be for kids. But, that’s not the case. Phrases related to Christmas gifts for kids/children are searched for just an estimated 904 times a day on average. That’s about 7.2% as often as “Christmas gifts for men.”

The results of this study were compiled by gathering large lists of phrases used by Internet searchers on lesser-known search engines then projecting the totals according to their share of daily Internet searches. Therefore these numbers are close but not absolute.

Here are some other interesting results that came out of this Internet study:

“Homemade Christmas gifts” has been searched for an estimated average of 818 times daily.

The phrase “Corporate Christmas gifts” has been searched for an estimated average of 208 times a day this holiday season.

When it comes to searches for Christmas gifts for dogs vs. gifts for cats, dogs win by a huge margin with about 241% more searches.

Several of the least searched for but most interesting phrases were “homemade Christmas prank gifts”, “cheap lawyer Christmas gift ornament” and “golden retriever printable Christmas gift tags.”

Amazing-Christmas-Ideas.com helps people solve their Christmas gift and Christmas decorating problems by researching what people are looking for online then giving it to them in the form of ideas, tips and recommendations. For more information visit www.amazing-christmas-ideas.com .

Christmas in Phuket
Phuket, Thailand: Thailand is a 95% Buddhist country so Christmas is not a festival that officially appears in the Thai calendar, but with a large ex-pat community and Thais who love an excuse to have fun, Christmas is celebrated in fine spirit every year - especially in Phuket. In fact, they started playing Christmas carols in Phuket’s Tesco on 19th November which took me by surprise. Then I noticed the frozen
Merry Christmas
’Tis The Season To Celebrate The Annual Festive Tradition Of Refusing To Call Christmas “Christmas.” 68% of Americans say they prefer to be greeted with “Merry Christmas” and not “Happy Holidays” and yet each year the Anti-Christmas Brigade takes to the streets, and takes to the airwaves, to protest against Americans calling Christmas by its name.
