EXASolution integrates MDX applications for business intelligence
Press release from: EXASOL AG
PR Agency: Waggener Edstrom Worldwide
(openPR) - • The interface on an open-source basis enables access to the OLAP server.
• Planning departments in companies profit from faster analyses, hence shorter decision-making cycles
Nuremberg, 28 June 2011 – The relational database solution EXASolution can now access data from the business intelligence (BI) applications written in MultiDimensional eXpressions (MDX) and analyse them straightaway. The Nuremberg database specialist EXASOL has developed an interface for this purpose thatis based on an open source OLAP server. Multidimensional OLAP cubes with data quantities in the terabyte area can thus be analysed in real time without the data requiring a prior aggregation. In particular, this gives the corporate areas of Controlling, Planning and Finance the opportunity to gain access to tendencies and trends, allowing them to make decisions on the right fact basis.
Thanks to the underlying open source solution by Pentaho, the implementation of the interface is cost-efficient for users. The performance data of EXASolution eliminates the typical restrictions of multidimensional OLAP databases when processing mass data. The disadvantages of other systems, such as near-time requirements and "sparsity", are also removed. Apart from real-time processing, MDX with EXASolution offers performance advantages in terms of long roll-up processes and high dimensionality. This means that a large amount of data can be analysed more quickly;
"With EXASolution, we above all address data warehouses with a capacity of ten up to 100 terabyte. This is because, especially with bigger databases, we reduce the time required for set-up and maintenance of the cubes. With traditional OLAP systems, it can take several hours before the data is available," Steffen Weissbarth, CEO of EXASOL AG, explains. "With MDX with EXASolution, this is not only faster, but we also enable the direct further processing of data for analysis in real time. As a result, companies very quickly obtain precisely those findings that they need to make a decision."
Users can employ EXASolution in several ways: Apart from analysing huge quantities of structured data, the solution is also suitable for creating reports or dashboards. The XMLA interface provides standardised access to multidimensional reporting and analysis tools, such as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and Arcplan.
The solution can be integrated into different IT management tools such as IBM Tivoli or HP Open View. In terms of business intelligence (BI) tools, Business Objects, Cognos or Microsoft Tools are supported, among others. EXASolution can be used on all current x86-64 platforms and, thanks to cluster storage, can also be saved in IT environments without a storage area network.
The EXASolution database is based on in-memory technology and makes it possible to analyse and evaluate even extremely large data volumes within a very short space of time. Thanks to its capacity for high performance and its low administrative expenditures, EXASolution supports companies in their efforts to gain valuable insights for their decision-making processes from their data. In April of this year, EXASOL AG was distinguished by Gartner as a “Cool Vendor” in the category of Data Management and Integration for 2011. Since the beginning of June, EXASolution has been available as a software as a service under the name EXACloud. Hardware and software are provided by EXASOL from Nuremberg. Users access the high-performance database directly using BI and ETL (extract, transform and load) tools. This resource-saving access to EXASolution makes it possible for EXACloud customers to manage their data with a particularly high degree of efficiency while continuing to reduce the total cost of ownership.
