(openPR) - Salt Lake City, Utah, June 14, 2011 - In response to the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals, Independence University has added two new master’s degrees in healthcare to its existing academic offerings: a Master of Science in Health Services—Health Promotion and a Master in Public Health.

The past decade has seen a surge of medical and pharmaceutical advancements, and a subsequent hike in average life expectancy. As a result of this, Americans are living longer lives than before, and the population of senior citizens is growing rapidly. Since this age bracket tends to require more medical attention and care than most, there is and will continue to be a huge demand for qualified healthcare professionals. U.S. Department of Labor data shows that 10 out of the 20 most rapidly growing occupations are related to the healthcare industry, which will, over the next seven years, generate more jobs than any other industry.*

The Master of Science in Health Services—Health Promotion program is designed to provide students with the training, knowledge, and practical experience required for health educators, community health specialists, health promotion specialists, and other positions. The curriculum encompasses a wide range of subjects vital for a healthcare professional, including nutrition, public health management, health program evaluation and development, health communication, psychology and counseling, addiction, and more.

The Master in Public Health program aims to help students master the various disciplines that constitute the field of public health. Students are instructed in biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, health services administration, and social/behavioral sciences. Graduates of the Master in Public Health program can pursue opportunities in pharmaceutical or health insurance companies.

The length of both these programs is 18 months. However, both may be completed in less-than-traditional time—in as few as 12 months. Criteria for admission to both programs include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
