ISG technology Completes a Major Infrastructure Project for The Langdale Estate

The Langdale Estate is set in 35 acres of woodland and waterways in the heart of the Lake District. The Estate includes a 57-bedroom hotel, 84 self-catering lodges, two restaurants and bars, a traditional pub and extensive leisure and spa facilities.

Langdale has completed a massive infrastructure project that included the provision of high speed wired and wireless Internet access, FreeSat TV over fibre and a future capability for IP Telephony, Utility Metering and Guest e-Services. ISG technology, the networking expert, was involved in the ambitious project to design, supply and install the LAN infrastructure throughout the 84 lodges without disruption to the site, the historic environment or the guests.

ISG technology’s networking solution was based around re-using redundant underground heating pipes and converting them to a cable duct. In order to reduce the number and size of cables running to each lodge, a bespoke composite fibre optic cable containing both Singlemode and Multimode cores was used to provide voice, video, FreeSat TV and data services to the lodges. Two main equipment rooms were established on site, each housing HP Core Chassis Equipment providing a high speed backbone. Each lodge is equipped with a data cabinet, an 8-port switch and a 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point providing both wired and wireless access. FreeSat is delivered using Global Fibre Optic LNB’s and the singlemode fibre network to each lodge where it is converted back to coaxial, reusing the existing cabling to each TV.
