Unique ‘SPEAKING UP in Poetry & Prose’ Book Deals with Major Issues Facing America Today By former award-winning columnist and writer Jack Joseph Prather
Press release from: PublishAmerica
(openPR) - Former award-winning columnist and writer Jack Joseph Prather was fretting about America’s gathering storm of problems in the spring of 2006 and searching for the right outlet to express his opinions, views and analyses. During his ritual walk at Carl Sandburg’s beloved estate in Flat Rock NC, his wife Pam encouraged him to resume writing poetry and the book SPEAKING UP in Poetry & Prose was conceived.
Four months later the book of 50 pieces plus Back-Stories and Briefs reflected Prather’s take on most of the important issues and topics facing 21st century Americans, ranging from the Iraq war to global warming, from religious intolerance to hypocrisy, from The Pledge of Allegiance ‘Under God’ to flag-burning, from taxes to immigration, from African hunger to bullying – even eminent domain. The list goes on.
PublishAmerica immediately agreed to publish Prather’s new work. It is now available by ordering from bookstores or online bookstores, or www.publishamerica.com or www.speakingupinpoetryandprose.net.
“This may be the first original collection of poetry that deals with societal, political, religious and life issues,” Prather suggests. “I wrote in traditional, non-traditional and experimental formats to capture my ideas and tried not to proselytize, except for “Drops of Dew” about African hunger.” Prather will donate a portion of the proceeds from his book to a credible hunger relief fund and urges readers to do the same.
Previously he produced two professional guidebooks: All PR is Local (2002/Booksurge) and The Public Relations Bluebook (1981, reprinted 1986/S-W Press), and a video: The Power of Public Relations.
As a journalist for The New Jersey Herald and Dover Advance, Prather won Best Column/All Divisions and first-place section honors among six awards. He later won magazine writing or poetry awards from Lifeglow, Listen and Explorer, and was published in The Prolific Writer and National Inquirer among many other publications.
During his 28-year career as a strategic PR consultant, Prather served the winner of the 1993 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award presented by President Clinton, was founder and executive director of the Playboy Resort Foundation in New Jersey during 10-years as PR director, received recognitions for marketing and advertising, and was political consultant to two US Congressmen, state legislators and county officials.
The New York City native and his wife Pam moved to Hendersonville NC in late 2005 where he began writing fulltime.
