Context-aware mobile platform deployed by Appear in the air and rail industries in order to improve customer service and operational efficiency receives coveted industry award

Riga, Latvia and Stockholm, Sweden – May 19th, 2011 – AirRail News, the leading publication for the air-rail market, announced yesterday the winners of the Global AirRail Awards 2011. Amidst fierce competition all over the world, Appear received the award in the category “Groundbreaking Technologies” for the deployment of its mobile platform with rail transport operators MTR (Stockholm) and NS (Netherlands) as well as air transport solution provider SITA.

Appear develops context aware software infrastructure and applications designed to support mobile field workers. The Appear IQ platform integrates context information such as location, job role, task in hand and real-time events into the mobile experience, improving operational efficiency and enhancing customer service.

Peter Melander, VP Business Development of Appear, explains: “Transport operators in the rail and air industries share the same challenges: their customer-facing employees need access to real-time information in order to provide the best possible level of service, but they don’t have the possibility of sitting behind a computer. Their customers - on the other hand - have internet enabled smartphones loaded with the latest apps, which means they are often better informed than the staff itself! Appear enables transport operators to close this information gap and efficiently mobilize customer service information for frontline workers.”

The Global AirRail Awards are the first international awards ceremony dedicated to the air-rail market, taking place at the international conference “The Future of AirRail - Innovations & Modern Technologies” organized this year in Riga, Latvia. The Awards are part of the AirRail News programme to promote rail connections with airports, recognise and share best practices.

This year’s entries were evaluated by an experienced industry panel composed of :

Ad Rutten, President, ACI Europe
Andrew Sharp, Director General, IARO
Paul Simmons, General Manager UK, easyJet
Ann Frye, Independent Consultant, Ann Frye
Richard Brown, Managing Director, Northstar Consultancy
William W. Millar, President, American Public Transportation Association
Diane Burke, Head of Sales & Marketing, First Great Western
Peter Cotton, Former Managing Director of Scotrail andGatwick Express

Milda Manomaityte, Editor of AirRail News and host of the Global AirRail Awards, commented: “To stay ahead in the competition with other transport modes, airport rail links have to constantly improve their service via new technologies, customer service and marketing. Appear’s mobile technology deployments with industry leaders like MTR, NS and SITA showed that vision, creativity and innovation are paramount to the delivery of a seamless journey experience between train and plane.”
