RESIDENT OF THE BUCKINGHAM MAKES SOUND ACTIVATED EASTER EGGS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN

Press release from: Forte Public Relations
The weeks leading up to Easter weekend were busy for Ken Hammond, a resident at The Buckingham senior living community. Hammond gave many hours making sound activated Easter eggs for children with visual impairments, so that they too could enjoy a traditional Easter egg hunt. The eggs were distributed through The Lighthouse for the Blind. No stranger to service, Hammond is a World War II veteran and last year received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his continued work with the AT&T Pioneers Program, where he volunteers his time repairing talking book machines used to assist those that are unable to read standard print material due to visual and/or physical impairments.

“Mr. Hammond is an inspiration to us all here at The Buckingham,” said Cathy Lightfoot, director of sales and marketing at The Buckingham. “Many of us take for granted the simple things in life, like reading a book or searching for eggs in an Easter egg hunt, but Mr. Hammond continues to help make those simple things a reality for thousands of people across the country, and here in our own community.”

The Buckingham is Houston’s premier life care senior living community located in the Memorial neighborhood. Situated on a 17-acre site along Buffalo Bayou at 8580 Woodway Drive, The Buckingham offers resort-style services and amenities for active, independent seniors, as well as all levels of health care services on-site at The Plaza at The Buckingham. The community features 205 independent living residences; 43 private assisted living apartments; 16 private memory support apartments; and 60 private skilled nursing suites.

The Buckingham is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit senior living community owned by Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC), a Texas-based nonprofit organization that owns sister communities Edgemere in Dallas, Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin, The Stayton at Museum Way set to open this fall in Fort Worth, and Mirador opening in June in Corpus Christi.
