Africa’s poverty seems to be growing in direct proportion to the growth of its population and the continent is at a crossroads in terms of how to meet the challenges of social change and the complexities of globalization and the uncontrolled violence. In the last couple of decades, every nation but African countries recorded some measure of growth. The people are disillusioned and there has been extensive analysis of the failed policies of African governments, as well as a frenzy of debates about Africa’s under-achieving leaders and the challenges of combating poverty and sustaining growth, but this book addresses the reasons why development policies in Africa fail. Tapang has been candid about what he believes to be the true nature of Africa’s problems and concludes that cultural development in Africa must precede economic development.

A native of Ghana, Tapang was born in a village called Bunkpurugu, in Northern Ghana. He had basic and secondary education in Ghana and studied veterinary medicine in Czech Republic and at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, United States. Tapang is currently a senior research pharmacologist at Abbott Laboratories, Illinois, working in cancer research, drug discovery and development.
