(openPR) - DALLAS – The Dallas trial law firm Sayles Werbner is announcing the addition of experienced patent attorney Jiri F. Smetana to help further expand the firm’s capabilities for both plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes intellectual property cases.

Smetana joins Sayles Werbner from H.C. Park & Associates in Vienna, Va., after previously working as a patent examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a registered patent attorney, and focuses his practice on patent litigation and counseling for clients involved in a wide range of technologies, including semiconductors, electronic displays, web applications, business methods, medical devices, wireless applications, and mobile devices.

Smetana’s experience representing clients before U.S. District Courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission provides him with significant expertise in litigation, mediation and licensing negotiations as well as all phases of complex patent litigation. He also works with clients in developing patent portfolio strategies and helping establish business goals for their intellectual property.

After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in chemical engineering, Smetana went on to earn his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
