Rhys Davies Freight Logistics Delivering the Goods for Azelis UK Life Sciences
Press release from: Rhys Davies Freight Logistics
PR Agency: The Words Workshop
(openPR) - During the past 40 years S. Black Ltd. has grown to become the UK’s leading specialist in the marketing of ingredients and the provision of technical support for manufacturers of life science products. Now part of the Azelis Group and renamed Azelis UK Life Sciences the company is responsible for the supply of ingredients for the personal care, food and pharmaceutical industries in the UK.
Transport specialist Rhys Davies Freight Logistics has worked closely with the company since 2003 to develop a flexible time-critical distribution system to meet the needs of its customers.
During the last eight years communications between the two companies have improved dramatically from a basically paper-based system, through to e-mail and now to a fully integrated Electronic Data Interchange system. This means that orders are entered on the system as they arrive at Azelis and the manifest dispatched to Rhys Davies for collection and next day delivery to the customer. Loads can vary in size from a single pallet to a full load and may include items which are potentially hazardous and require expert handling.
“Sometimes the content of loads can change with very little notice, so it’s important the driver is properly trained and qualified to handle all types of products, including those that may be hazardous,” said Andy Levoir, Logistics Manager at Azelis. “All Rhys Davies’s drivers meet those requirements so whoever is assigned to the job we know there won’t be a problem.”
Rhys Davies has invested heavily in driver training and that investment has gained the company an enviable reputation for the safe handling of hazardous goods.
“We take safety very seriously, so for us specialist training for drivers carrying hazardous goods is essential,” said Gary Phillips, Rhys Davies’s Commercial Manager. “We operate strictly in accordance with the ADR (Accord Dangereuse Routiers) the European directive on the carriage of hazardous goods and all of our drivers are trained to meet those exacting standards. That’s very important when working with a customer like Azelis where loads often contain hazardous and non-hazardous products.”
During 2010 Rhys Davies distributed around 500,000 kg of products a month to Azelis’s customers throughout the United Kingdom.
‘More than just transport’
Rhys Davies Freight Logistics is a national company headquartered in South Wales with eight depots throughout the United Kingdom. The company has clients across a wide range of industries including chemicals, carpets, building products and food.
