• Combination of EXASolution database and Dell OEM PowerEdge™ hardware provides fastest possible throughput and processing for data warehousing and business intelligence (BI) applications
• Dell PowerEdge hardware platforms leads to significant performance gains
• EXASOL’s new version 4.0 breaks existing performance limits

BRACKNELL, UK, 6th April 2011 – Dell OEM Solutions today announced that its hardware has played a crucial role in allowing EXASOL, a leading provider of high-performance database management systems, to set new performance records across five categories in the prestigious TPC-H benchmark. EXASolution 4.0 increased the Composite Query-per-Hour (QphH) Performance Metrics by more than factor 4 compared to previously achieved results on other hardware. In combination with the Dell OEM PowerEdge R710 server platform and working with technology partner Bechtle, EXASOL provides a multitude of performance for a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions.
The TPC Benchmark™H (TPC-H) is a performance test of the independent Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) for data warehouse solutions that is recognized worldwide. The benchmark simulates data warehouse analyses requiring considerable processing power and measures both the speed and capacity of database solutions. TPC-H categories are delineated by database size, and based on the latest round of independently audited results, EXASOL has set records in the 100GB, 300GB, 1TB, 3TB and 10TB categories.

"It is remarkable that EXASOL achieved the best ratings for Data Warehouse Appliances in all five categories from 100 GB to 10 TB queried data volume in the TPC-H Benchmark,” said Dr. Carsten Bange, managing partner of the Business Application Research Center (BARC). “Query performance is one of the key criteria for analytical databases, because the growing demands of users regarding query response times combined with rapidly growing amounts of data are a major challenge for BI-environments. With the good cost-performance ratio shown in the benchmark, EXASOL also addresses another major pain point for many of today's systems."

“Dell OEM Solutions’ unique capabilities and expertise really made us the only hardware partner that could have pulled off this kind of project for EXASOL,” said Sam Forsbom, General Manager, OEM Solutions EMEA, Dell. “The TPC-H benchmarks are incredibly competitive, so these results really speak for themselves and demonstrate the importance of finding the right hardware platform to support extremely demanding applications. In the world of data warehousing and business intelligence, improved performance can deliver a significant boost to business processes and decision making, so it is gratifying to know that this partnership between Dell OEM Solutions and EXASOL will ultimately translate into a genuine competitive advantage for customers.”

“The momentum behind Large Data and the increasing need to interrogate these data sets in a variety of sophisticated ways make performance and scalability the key battlegrounds for data warehousing solutions,” said Steffen Weissbarth, CEO of EXASOL AG. “In order to maximize the performance of our software, we needed a hardware partner like Dell OEM Solutions that could take on an ambitious project at very short notice and that was willing to go the extra yard in order to hit the targets we had set for ourselves. The fact that the Dell OEM team was even able to source the new Intel Xeon X5690 chips before their official release in order to build a one-off specification for us demonstrates their expertise, global reach and commitment. Dell OEM Solutions’ customization and supply chain capabilities will be an invaluable part of our go to market strategy.”
