Bill Smith was encouraged to publish his poetry by his pastor and members of his church and has received praise for his poetry from former President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. Now retired from the life insurance business, was born and raised in Bristol, Virginia and married Mary Barker on August 4, 1942. They have three children, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
