Worldwide Video Action on Climate Change
Press release from: The World Demands | Your Climate Change Short Movie
Hamburg/Koblenz, March 31. Copenhagen was a ‘Waterloo’ for Climate Protection Worldwide. Also the 16th United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Cancun, December 2011, has not produced big decisions to stop anthropogenic Climate Change and to defend our world against further drastic consequences of Global Warming. Now the United Nations and the signatories of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change are working towards a major success in the next ‘Conference of Parties’ in Durban, South Africa, at the end of the year 2011.
But even today voices from the world politics are growing even louder, anticipating no further big breakthroughs in Durban. Though Global Warming will not pause. The time window in which world community could mitigate the consequences from our greenhouse gas emissions since industrialization is shrinking faster and faster. But the appreciable ramifications are increasing.
After the worldwide heat waves of last summer we are bemoaning the loss of tenthousands of heat victims. Experts are warning that such heat waves will occur five to ten times more often in future decades. Droughts, but also extreme, enduring rainfalls and resultant floods, will torment us more and more frequently. And world population is growing. Nearly seven billion people are living on our planet today and a large part of humanity is already fighting for drinking water and food. According to a forecast of the UNO our planet will harbor nine billion people in 2050. On that score the ramifications arising out of Climate Change will take on a dramatic scale.
While politics and economy are contending unsuccessfully about wide-ranging changes for the protection of Earth Climate, Civil Society is getting left out as an onlooker. Neither calls from underdeveloped nor from developed countries are loud enough or will be heard from our leaders in politics and economy. Though exactly these voices must get a better hearing from the world leaders because Civil Society should decide about the endeavor and pace of Climate Change Policies of more than 190 countries on our planet.
‘The World Demands | Your Climate Change Short Movie’ is a worldwide video action, which wants to convey appeals, sorrows, fears and stories of numerous people of the Civil Society to the representatives of politics, economy, religion, society and medias.
