In an effort to remember the one year anniversary of the 2010 earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, The Bra Recyclers, a division of BB Recycling, LLC took on an impressive task: To Re-Shape Haiti. The Bra Recyclers, with the help of Bra Recycling Ambassadors nationwide collected over 1,000 bras to send to women and girls in a struggling Haiti. This exceeded the goal set in November by the Gilbert, AZ based textile recycling organization.

The Bra Recyclers launched the bra collection effort to collect gently new and used bras to donate to survivors of the Haiti earthquake in hopes of helping re-shape Haiti and reminding the country that there is still hope. Their partner, Angel Wings International, will be delivering the bras to Haitian women over the next few weeks. Myrlande Affriany, Founder of Angel Wings International in Fort Lauderdale, FL, was excited to hear about the response from women around the country so provide support to women and girls in Haiti.

The Bra Recyclers currently supports over twenty shelters and women’s organizations and are hoping to expand that support into other areas (including LA, MO, KS, ID, UT, IA, OK, NE, and AR). Although the Re-Shape Haiti campaign has come to an end, The Bra Recyclers will continue to provide support to Angel Wings International as Haitian women and girls have a continuous need for bras.

Currently, The Bra Recyclers are gearing up for an Earth Day Awareness Bra Recycling campaign in which the company hopes to bring awareness to environmental and women’s issues simultaneously. Details regarding the Earth Day Awareness Bra Recycling drive will be announced in the coming weeks via their social media pages and company website.

The Bra Recyclers would like to encourage women nationwide to continue to donate their bras. According to Elaine Birks-Mitchell, The Bra Recyclers CEO, “Our goal is to provide bras to all of the organizations we support as long as they need them.” As a member of SMART (Secondary Materials & Recycled Textiles Association), we are committed to “the Green” way of life. SMART members encourage everyone to Donate, Recycle and Don’t Throw Away. Birks continues by saying, “Even after a bra drive has ended we encourage women around the country to continue to recycle their bras.” “Unfortunately, the need for this simple lingerie staple does not go away after a bra drive.” “Your support and encouragement is needed to help us reduce the need for bras for women and girls in transition.”
