Colorado medical marijuana center to release open source software
Press release from: Greenwerkz
Denver, Colo. -- Denver-based medical marijuana center, Greenwerkz, LLC. (greenwerkz.com), today has announced that it will be coordinating the development of an open source software system for Point-Of-Sale (POS), inventory, plant management, patient management and compliance for use by Medical Marijuana Centers (MMCs). This software package will be free for all MMCs to download and use. The project, called MMOSS (Medical Marijuana Open Source System), will be hosted on open source provider codeplex.com and has a beta version launch date scheduled for May 30th, 2011.
"There are many possible integration points throughout the medicine's seed-to-sale lifecycle", said Chad Jennewine, lead architect of the MMOSS project. "We see this as an excellent opportunity to have a constantly evolving solution in the hands in as many MMCs as possible. As other states adopt regulatory frameworks similar to Colorado, I believe we will have built a robust enough solution to support these additional states' requirements."
Greenwerkz is a co-founder of the Medical Marijuana Industry Group (MMIG - www.mmig.org) and has been an influential player in past and current legislative issues. The company sees this as an additional avenue in which to remain involved in both the technology and compliance portion of the industry.
"Almost all POS/chain management software vendors had only 60% of the solution we were looking for." states Dan Rogers, Greenwerkz' COO, "Many had decent POS functionality but not the plant management portion. Many were very expensive to install but did not allow us to expand upon their software. It was our conclusion that if the industry were involved in building the solution, it would exactly meet Colorado MMC’s specific issues and everyone would benefit from removing the inherent barrier to entry."
Any Colorado-based MMCs or software developers interested in participating in MMOSS, contact pr@greenwerkz.com
Greenwerkz is a Colorado-based medical marijuana center with four locations, opening in 2009. It has been actively involved in common-sense legislation and regulation of the industry and is a co-founder of Medical Marijuana Industry Group (www.mmig.org)
