The new ‘buzz’ word ‘staycation’ as it is known, has become increasingly popular, with the cost of family holidays abroad on the increase, and the value of the pound weaker, families are choosing to holiday in the UK. Camping and caravanning in the UK is at the top of the list for a brilliant ‘staycation’.

As the cut-backs start to take effect and everyone is feeling the pinch in their pockets, many families are changing their thinking and their spending decisions when planning their Easter and summer holidays, in fact the office of national statistics recent figures support this thinking.

In the 1960s camping became a popular fun family holiday, and campsites became more popular than guest houses, and today, the family holiday market in the UK, is getting a boost in interest from camping and caravanning holidays.

Holidaying on a camping and caravanning holiday park certainly offers freedom from the restrictions still imposed on guests staying in boarding houses and hotels, is less expensive, and is certainly a wholesome and healthy active holiday, seen by most children as exciting and a huge adventure.

A vast range of camping and caravanning sites spread across the counties of Devon and Cornwall which has always proved to be an extremely popular location for the perfect holiday, taking into account the predominately warmer and dryer climate, areas of outstanding natural beauty, coastal and country options, is it any wonder that these counties seem to be top of the list of ideal locations.

The growth of self-catering holidays is on the increase and caravan parks around the UK are proactive in their campaigns to raise the profile of camping and caravanning among the UK population, especially as the great British public is choosing the option of a ‘staycation’

Being involved in outdoor pursuits has a positive impact on how we feel, and either camping or hooking up a touring caravan or renting a static caravan, we can all enjoy simple pursuits such as cycling, walking, climbing and surfing, and the growing consensus it that this is highly beneficial for all to escape to the country, to take exercise, and visit local cultures and places of interest, and more importantly can enjoy an uncomplicated time with family and friends.

A spokesman for Wooda Farm Holiday Park in Bude Cornwall, said “so many more people are planning holidays in the UK, and enjoying the pastimes which in some cases have been pushed into the background over recent years” he went on to say “holiday parks in Cornwall are definitely a popular choice, and at Wooda we can offer luxury accommodation and plenty of activities to make the perfect family holiday”.

Clearly ‘staycations’ are growing, the camping season is lengthening, and the outlook for this form of leisure time is extremely positive.
