Rhys Davies Carpet Logistics Expands Specialist Fleet to Meet Increased Demand
Press release from: Rhys Davies Freight Logistics
PR Agency: The Words Workshop
(openPR) - Rhys Davies Carpet Logistics is expanding its fleet with the purchase of specialist double-doored carpet trailers following the acquisition of a number of new contracts from major customers to deliver carpets across the UK. The double-doored trailers are fitted with a set of doors at either end allowing Rhys Davies to load and unload more effectively, which will be particularly useful on their night trunking operations.
Rhys Davies has developed an enviable reputation for its expertise in carpet distribution and has invested heavily in storage facilities, vehicles, IT systems and expert staff to provide a specialist service for the industry.
Because carpet handling and distribution is such a specialised area, Rhys Davies established a storage and handling system to ensure the unusual aspects of handling the product were catered for. For example, specially equipped fork lift trucks fitted with booms rather than forks are used to safely load the heavy rolls of carpet onto the double ended trailers. To keep track of stock movements, Rhys Davies uses a dedicated Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system whereby every carpet is scanned in or out of the warehouse giving the client detailed information about the status of each delivery. By accessing an integrated tracking system clients can see exactly how many carpets have been received and are in stock, which carpets are out for delivery, and how many carpets are planned for delivery the next day.
Steve Elliott, Managing Director of carpet manufacturer Associated Weavers said, “The IT system saves us time and money. We can easily track our products which saves back and forth telephone conversations about the locations of deliveries.
The proof of the system’s success is in the fact that I have to talk to the guys at Rhys Davies very rarely. This means there aren’t many, or any problems or damages that we need to discuss. The distribution of products for any business should be something that goes on in the background without any problems and that’s what we’ve found using Rhys Davies.”
Steve also gave credit to Rhys Davies’ use of regular staff to handle its carpet business rather than using agency personnel. “Rhys Davies’ drivers know our product and become regular, trusted faces to our clients,” said Steve. They know the delivery points and how each particular client likes the carpets delivered. For example they might know that one client prefers deliveries before 11 o’clock, or that another likes their carpets delivered directly to the shop floor rather than the store room.”
With its continuing investment in staff, infrastructure, vehicles and technology Rhys Davies Carpet Logistics is ideally placed to win more contracts in this specialist sector in the coming year.
