Turnstiles implemented in Perugia’s busses to avoid the payment evasion

Press release from: Infordata Sistemi S.r.l.

In the meeting of the Board Committee that took place the last October and which was focused on the Perugia City Transports, the test about the use of turnstiles to control the access to the busses have been defined. The testing period concluded successfully and will be developed in order to end with the problem of those who travel without paying for the ticket in the public transports.

The assessor Ciccione explained that due to the economic crisis of the country, they began to work and to experiment in order to decrease the price of the tickets. The assessor highlighted the importance of the turnstiles testing period that has ended with great results. “The fight against the payment evasion was not a very difficult problem to solve, but the turnstiles resulted to be an incredibly efficient system” explained Ciccione.

The project was applied in the line S from the 18th October until the beginning of 2011; in the first phase there was a man with the specific function of helping passengers to understand and interact with the new system to enter in the bus. All the busses where the project was implemented were identified with a specific decoration and with and a unique entrance at the front side of the bus. To access it was only needed to put closer the bus pass or to validate the ticket.

The new system that will be implemented this year will allow recovering the tariff evasion that raises the 10% of the total takings in the urban service of Perugia; for a total annual amount of 600.000 euro for the regional capital and about 1.000.000 euro for the total of the urban services offered in all the region's cities. The national reality instead, considering the urban and extra urban services, registers a tariff evasion of 450 million each year.

Turnstiles are also successfully implemented in private businesses to guarantee security. They can be integrated with a time and attendance system so that you can easily manage employees or clients. The access control can be acquired through the use of biometric systems or RFID readers.
