Orlando, FLA. (February 3, 2011) – D.J. Gregory’s Walking For Kids Foundation presented a major gift of $26,000 to UCP of Central Florida. The presentation was made at UCP’s downtown/Holloway campus at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, January 25, 2011.

Ilene Wilkins, UCP’s president and CEO, Mike Meadors, UCP’s board chairman, and several children who attend UCP accepted the award from D.J. Gregory, founder of the Walking For Kids Foundation (WFKF) and Bill King, board member and treasurer of WFKF.

“On behalf of all of the students, families, and team members of UCP, we are honored to receive this generous donation from the Walking For Kids Foundation,” said Wilkins. “Not only is D.J. Gregory a great example of how children with special needs can make their dreams come true, but he is a generous, caring individual who is committed to helping others achieve so much.”

D.J. created the Walking For Kids Foundation to help raise money for children's charities from coast to coast. In late 2010, the Foundation selected UCP of Central Florida as a recipient of the $26,000 gift.

“What motivated me to launch the Foundation and support organizations like UCP is that I’ve been able to achieve so much and make many of my dreams come true,” said D.J. “It is a special feeling to be able to give back and help others do the same. I want to share that with others.”

According to Wilkins, this donation will help UCP continue to provide support, education and therapy to children in Central Florida.

In 2008, D.J. Gregory walked into the hearts of players and fans on the PGA TOUR by walking every round and every hole on the PGA TOUR. D.J. did it the hard way...with a cane. D.J. has cerebral palsy. When the journey came to the end in late 2008, D.J. had walked over 988 miles and followed 3,256 holes — from Hawaii to Orlando.

D.J. was noticed by players, fans, and people from around the world. He fell in love with golf at the age of twelve, when he first began watching the game on television and attending local tournaments with his dad. But unlike other golf fans, D.J. never dreamed of playing professionally, becoming a ranked amateur, or even a caddie. When D.J. was an infant, doctors told his parents that he would probably spend his life in a wheelchair because of cerebral palsy. But that didn't keep D.J. from trying to beat the odds; as a child he endured five surgeries and eventually learned to walk with a cane.

In late 2009, D.J. Gregory formed the Walking For Kids Foundation, which allows PGA TOUR Professionals and sports fans the opportunity to support several children’s charities. There are numerous ways the Foundation raises money each year. Throughout the PGA TOUR season, players pick a tournament they are participating in and pledge money for each eagle and birdie they make that week. D.J. also holds a golf tournament each year where golf enthusiasts have the opportunity to play with PGA Tour players, celebrities and with D.J. himself. The Walking For Kids Foundation also receives numerous donations from people throughout the country who are inspired by D.J. and want to participate in his mission to help children.

This is not a golf story. But a story that shows in life there are no limits.
