Perle Systems Releases IP Managed Media Converters with Advanced Security Levels
Press release from: Perle Systems
NASHVILLE, TN—January 28, 2011— Perle Systems, a global provider of advanced fiber to Ethernet and secure device networking solutions, is pleased to announce a full range of Standalone IP Managed Media Converters. Ideal for extending a fiber to Ethernet link to a remote office up to 120km away, Perle’s SMI Managed Media Converters offer extensive security, network integration and ease of use features that are not available in similar products by other manufacturers.
“To install a network device that can be accessed over IP and does not support the existing network security system leaves you exposed to hackers,” says Al Davies, Director of Product Management at Perle Systems. “The simple User ID [password] implementation provided by other media converter vendors is not enough. Only media converters that utilize the existing authorization method in a network should be deployed to control access to the device, authorization levels and maintain an audit trail.”
Unlike the competition, Perle’s SMI Managed Media Converters support all authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) security services used in corporate networks, including TACACS+, RADIUS, LDAP, Kerberos, NIS and RSA. To further protect ID’s and passwords from someone ‘snooping’ on the network, management session data is protected through encryption via SSH and HTTPS connections.
“These types of features provide the same level of protection used when managing your corporate firewalls, switches and routers,” says Davies. “It should be expected that this protection is also available in your Managed Media Converter.”
Users will appreciate how easy the Perle SMI Managed Media Converters are to set up with an intuitive Web Manager GUI and multiple methods of access. And, with support for IPv6, Perle Media Converters provide organizations with investment protection to meet this rapidly growing standard.
With this launch, Perle now offers over 300 Media Converter models to connect 10BaseT, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit to fiber. This enables Perle to offer a solution to connect any fiber and copper cable type and distance. All Perle Media Converters have an on-board microcontroller which deals with error detection and recovery. And, Perle Media Converters only use high-end components to ensure product reliability. Perle backs this up with a Lifetime Warranty to guarantee user satisfaction.
