Environmental consultants, Phlorum, select Sigmer Technologies Ltd to conduct a product design survey to gather feedback for a new on-line tool to develop and manage Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP’s). Sigmer’s skills, experience and survey technology was perfectly matched to the requirement to obtain high-quality feedback, rapidly and cost-effectively..

Phlorum is a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy providing advice, monitoring and assessment services to compliment the requirements of all aspects of environmental and sustainability issues affecting businesses and the development planning process.

Brighton, East Sussex – Phlorum’s activities includes collaborative research and the development of technological solutions to help public and private sector organisations understand and manage their environmental impact. The company is developing an on-line tool to assist organisations with the production and management of Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP’s); a mandatory part of the planning process for developments that exceed £300,00. Phlorum have identified that the production of SWMP’s is both onerous and poorly served by existing technology.

Phlorum decided to undertake a product design survey to canvas opinion from producers of SWMP’s, as to the features and facilities that they would find valuable, before they embarked upon the development of the on-line SWMP tool..

The online survey was hosted from Sigmer’s high security data centre in London. The Phlorum Project Team was provided with an on-line reporting portal that allowed them to monitor overall response statistics for the survey and to view a statistical and graphical report of feedback responses. A further detailed reporting portal was provided at the end of the survey allowing viewing and downloading of survey data in CSV and SPSS formats.

The survey has allowed Phlorum to gather much useful design feedback which has been used to inform the product design process as well as the product marketing strategy.
