Press release from: Ex Libris

A powerful combination of superior search technology and strong consortial support made Primo the natural choice

Hamburg, Germany – January 19, 2011. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the National Library of Luxembourg has selected the Primo® discovery and delivery solution. Following a rigorous evaluation of international products and vendors, the National Library found that Primo best met its principal requirement to offer a highly intuitive way to access and explore the diverse resources and online catalogs that form Luxembourg’s bibnet.lu network.

The bibnet.lu network consists of the National Library and 35 public institutions from different sectors, and serves as a central information service provider for its members. With Primo, the National Library intends to significantly improve the discovery experience and open a unique access point to the heterogeneous information resources offered by libraries in the network. By centralizing services and optimizing the network’s operating costs through a consortia platform, Primo meets another of the national library’s top requirements—the need to reduce the total cost of ownership of information systems in a consortia environment.

“Primo’s ability to integrate our heterogeneous databases, library catalog, and digital library—eluxemburgensia.lu—into a single solution was an important factor in our decision,” explained Monique Kieffer, director of the Luxembourg National Library. “In addition, the ability to access library services such as loans, and hold and renewal requests directly from Primo, greatly enhances our users’ discovery experience.”

“We are delighted by the decision of the National Library of Luxembourg and the other members of bibnet.lu to adopt Primo,” commented Ullrich Jüngling, vice president of sales for Central, East, and South East Europe at Ex Libris. “We are looking forward to collaborating with the national library network in its ongoing work of making information resources easily and widely accessible to the citizens of Luxembourg.”
