(openPR) - Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Fred Gemmell in Unbound Perspectives. The exhibition is scheduled to run from February 4, 2011 through February 25, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, February 10, 2011).

About the Artist
Fred Gemmell’s large-scale works, painted unconventionally on the reverse side of special low-reflective museum acrylic, are inspired by moments of transcendent beauty. The work is influenced by the artist’s experiences growing up in Panama; birdcalls in rainforests, showers weaving through dappled afternoon light, deep night skies and the quiet of floating in small boats on dark oceans. His paintings contain a feeling of awe and a sense of unfolding mysteries. Gemmell’s abstractions are unusually unrestrained. This is a look into an unfettered mind at play. Ribbons of high velocity color race across the minutia of detailed markings, creating moods and movement in a world of layers. In his abstractions you may not see the raindrops, but you will remember something of the rainstorms in your past.

An accomplished architectural designer with an engineering degree as well as an artist, Gemmell studied Art and Architecture at the University of Arizona. He now lives in San Diego, working with his partner in their architecture and interior design business.

About the Exhibition:
Sensitivity, intelligence and vision shine through the works on display, with the collection as a whole an example of creativity at its energetic best. The artists come from widely differing backgrounds and a range of countries, and as such each bring their own personal perspective on life and the world at large to their work. Yet they are united by a shared commitment to the importance of artistic development, and the real and lasting effect that art can have on those who see it.
