Thomas Ab-e’s Fantasy World at Agora Gallery
Press release from: Agora Gallery
(openPR) - Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature artist Thomas Ab-e in The Manifestation of Milieu. The exhibition is scheduled to run from February 4, 2011 through February 25, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, February 10, 2011).
About the Artist
Classical yet contemporary, modern Dutch master Thomas Ab-e’s art resonates with echoes of Hieronymus Bosch, Dürer, and other notable artists of the early Northern Renaissance movement. He works with oils on canvas, having found from experience that only this combination succeeds in capturing the purity of thought which forms a vital part of his expression. As both the figures and the level of realism in his paintings are playfully stretched, his subjects interact dramatically with each other and with viewers as the artist creates a scene in paint which seeks to bring the observer into his fantasy world. Joyfully illuminated in rich, glowing tones, Ab-e’s gothically inspired paintings blaze with an inner light as he brings to life visions of a wondrous reality.
Born in 1952 in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, Thomas Ab-e (also known as T.V. Abashidze) moved to Amsterdam in 1989 where he quickly gained recognition for his boldly symbolic works throughout the Netherlands.
Exhibition Dates: February 4, 2011 - February 25, 2011
Reception: Thursday, February 10, 2011, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Gallery Location: 530 West 25th St, New York City
Gallery Hours: Tues – Sat, 11a.m. - 6 p.m.

About the Exhibition:
Sensitivity, intelligence and vision shine through the works on display, with the collection as a whole an example of creativity at its energetic best. The artists come from widely differing backgrounds and a range of countries, and as such each bring their own personal perspective on life and the world at large to their work. Yet they are united by a shared commitment to the importance of artistic development, and the real and lasting effect that art can have on those who see it.
