(openPR) - Wind River Linux to Support Texas Instruments OMAP2430 Processor for the Handset and PDA Market
Wind River announced a new collaboration with the leading wireless semiconductor provider, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) to enable Wind River's Linux-based device software platform and Wind River Workbench development tools, including Wind River Workbench On-chip Debugging tools, on TI's OMAP2430 applications processor for handsets and personal digital assistants (PDAs). By providing support for the OMAP2430 processor's advanced, multimedia performance features, Wind River Linux will allow mobile handset manufacturers to develop, test and run next-generation, revenue-generating applications such as video conferencing, digital music, mobile-to-mobile gaming and mobile TV, faster and at a lower cost.
Wind River offers a commercial-grade Linux platform ideal for device manufacturers that require special Linux capabilities to support mobile device development projects. The platform contains a fully tested and validated Linux distribution based on mature Linux 2.6 kernel technology. At its core is an open cross-build system that assembles packages and manages individual patches to maintain the pristine open source and build a Linux run-time distribution designed for a specific device. The Wind River Platform for Consumer Devices, Linux Edition is optimized for small footprint and fast boot-time, but also contains all the essential Linux capabilities consumer device manufacturers require such as power management, graphics and audio support. With broad support for leading next-generation processors such as the OMAP2430 and reference boards for mobile devices, Wind River's Linux platform includes Eclipse-based, Wind River Workbench development tools, customer education and 24/7 global technical support for a complete mobile handset solution.
