Advantech Ships First Intel® Atom™-based Network Appliances
Press release from: Advantech Co Ltd
(openPR) - New, Entry-level Single- and Dual-core Models
Available in Cost Effective, Low-power Tabletop
and 1U Rackmount Versions
Taipei, Taiwan, December 17th, 2010: Advantech, a global manufacturer of telecom computing blades and multicore network processor platforms, today announced two new products based on the Intel® Atom™ D510 and D525 dual-core processors, and D410 single-core processors. The FWA-1305 fanless tabletop and FWA-3305 rackmount appliances bring the best price-performance available today in the entry level x86 network security market.
OEMs seeking improved scalability and a competitive cost advantage for their small-to-medium business (SMB) range can now benefit from these powerful but low power consumption Internet security platforms capable of meeting the entry-level demands of mainstream IDS/IPS, anti-virus, VPN gateway and Unified Threat Management (UTM) applications. The platforms are designed as OEM-ready appliances for fast OEM branding through a streamlined integration, test, packaging and global logistics program.
Both products adopt the latest Intel® Atom™ processor and Intel® 82801HBM I/O controller hub, and support up to 4 GB of single-channel DDR2 SDRAM on two SODIMMs. One CompactFlash slot provides for application storage or OS upgrade facility. Connectivity on both platforms is via a console port, two USB ports and up to six 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports. By leveraging PCI Express (PCIe) technology, both models take full advantage of the Intel® ICH8M chipset’s PCIe capability to maximize I/O throughput. The platforms have five PCIe x1 lanes connected directly to Intel® 82583V Ethernet controllers and one Intel® 82567V GbE PHY.
On the compact FCC Class B certified FWA-1305 desktop model, all ports and cabling are to the rear, and the system houses an optional 2.5" SATA drive. An FIPS 140-2 L2 compliant variant is also available with a specialized air vent design that meets physical tamper-evidence requirements. An external 65W AC/DC adapter provides cost effective power. This model is ideally suited for installation in SMB offices or retail outlets where low-to-no noise is mandatory and no-maintenance, fanless equipment extends the life of the installation.
In addition, the FWA-3305 rackmount version offers an optional dual-pair LAN bypass functionality and has reserved space for one 3.5" SATA drive. For simple operator access, an LCD module facilitates local system management, maintenance, and diagnostics. The rackmount model is equipped with an auto-ranging 100W AC power supply and all ports are front-panel based.
Both products are fully FCC, CE, UL, CCC and RoHS compliant and available now with comprehensive software support for a wide range of Linux distributions.
