FLOW3 PHP Framework up for a Reality Check at Plat_Forms 2011 Programming Competition

Nuremberg, December 10, 2010: FLOW3, the TYPO3 community’s upcoming PHP framework, will take part in the Plat_Forms 2011 programming competition, taking place January 18th to 19th, 2011 in Nuremberg, Germany. It will compete against Ruby on Rails, Java and Perl, among others.
Plat_Forms 2011, organized by Freie Universität Berlin, the Open Source Business Foundation, and 'iX magazine, aims to provide insight in the real pros, cons and properties of each participating web application platform.
Consisting of three top-class developers each, the participating teams will compete at implementing the same specification of a web-based application in just two days. The results will then be evaluated in different aspects (functionality, usability, reliability, etc.) according to scientific standards.
The FLOW3 team, one of 4 teams using the PHP programming language, will consist of Robert Lemke and Karsten Dambekalns, FLOW3’s two full-time core developers, as well as Andreas Förthner, lead developer at Nuremberg-based web agency netlogix Media and designer of FLOW3’s security architecture.
“We are excited about this opportunity to get unbiased and profound feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of our framework” said Robert Lemke, lead developer behind the FLOW3 project. “It will be interesting to see how it performs at a list of requirements that cannot be planned for.”
While considered one of the most promising upcoming PHP frameworks by many, FLOW3, the TYPO3 Community’s new foundation for enterprise web applications, is still on the verge of earning its merits in real-world large projects. It is the base of TYPO3 Phoenix, the upcoming new version of the popular open source CMS.
FLOW3 is a precursor in bringing concepts like Domain-Driven Design, Dependency Injection and Aspect-Oriented Programming to the PHP world. Its team currently consists of more than ten developers and a vibrant community around it.
