Due to La Rogaia´s considerate way of farming, rare orchids that seemed almost extinct, are returning to the olive orchards

It happens quite often, that people interested in adopting an olive tree ask “What is the special thing about La Rogaia Olive Tree Adoptions”.
For the people of La Rogaia the answer is easy.
It is the combination of
· organic farming without pesticides, herbicides, insecticides
· growing the olive trees in a traditional, non industrial way
· active protection of the natural environment by maintaining and protecting existing natural habitats and creating new habitats for rare animals and plants, threatened by extinction as consequence of industrial agriculture (One example: Rare orchids which seemed to have already vanished are now returning to the olive orchards, due to La Rogaia´s considerate way of farming)
· protection of old cultural landscapes (In the year 2010 alone La Rogaia has restored and where necessary newly constructed more than 200 yards dry stone walls, with heights ranging from 1 yard to 2,5 yards). The dry stone walls, built by the ancient farmers over centuries offered protection against erosion and provided living space for animals and plants. They have been tipical landmarks for the mountain regions of Umbria and Tuscany. Unfortunately many of them have been destroyed and need to be rebuilt.
Everybody who adopts an olive tree at La Rogaia contributes actively to these goals.
For those who are interested in art as well as in the protection of nature, Villa La Rogaia offers something really special, the “ArteNatura” project.
People can adopt a small olive tree and a sculpture, which “protects” the tree. Thus will be formed an olive tree sculpture park. Choosing this form of olive tree adoption one can make a really extraordinary gift, be it for a loved one you care for or for instance for a business partner.
