TMI alum wins UT business contest
Press release from: TMI - The Episocopal School of Texas
Michael Koetting, a 2009 graduate of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was a member of the team that won first place in the McCombs BBA Fall Case Competition at the Red McCombs School of Business of the University of Texas – Austin.
Koetting, a sophomore at the business school, was part of the four-member Tower Solutions team judged to have offered the best solution to the competition’s case-study problem. Sixteen teams received a challenge from OtherInbox, an Austin-based technology start-up company whose product organizes e-mail. As presenting sponsor, OtherInbox provided information about its business and gave the students a work week to propose plans for a core revenue-generating strategy.
The Tower Solutions team presented a viral marketing campaign aimed at college students “because research shows that college students are among the best at sparking a technology-driven network effect,” said Koetting. His team also suggested a networking system for coupons that can be shared with the user’s contacts. This dual approach, he added, “is what gave us the edge with the judges,” a panel of OtherInbox executives led by a McCombs School of Business instructor.
The winning team received a $1,000 award and will advance to international competition next spring at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Koetting, who served as Battalion Executive Officer in the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets at TMI, plans a career in corporate finance or consulting.
About TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas: Founded in 1893, TMI is a private, co-educational, college-preparatory school for grades 6-12, with optional Junior ROTC and boarding programs. For information, visit www.tmi-sa.org or call 698-7171.
