The Detailed Faces of Ric Conn are on View at Agora Gallery
Press release from: Agora Gallery
(openPR) - Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Kent Island artist, Ric Conn, in Sensorial Realms. The exhibition is scheduled to run from December 16, 2010 through January 7, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, December 02, 2010).
Although classified as portraits, Ric Conn calls this body of work his “face paintings,” because it is the attention to the details of the faces of his subjects which makes his paintings the gripping, memorable creations that they are. Working with amateur models in plain clothes whose expressions and gestures have not yet calcified into the slick arsenal of advertising and consumer culture, Conn captures the unmitigated voracity of his female subjects in precise and vivid detail. Possessing almost the feeling of snapshots, in rich chiaroscuro Conn depicts a sly smile, a vulnerable smirk, a provocative nod or uniquely seductive, penetrating eyes. Each figure looms large upon the canvas, dominating the composition with her candid sensuousness, her insuperable gaze igniting an emotional connection between artist, subject and viewer.
Ric Conn was born in 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland and studied at the Corcoran College of Art in Washington, D.C. and the Maryland Institute College of Art. He currently lives and works on Kent Island, just off the eastern shore of Maryland.
Exhibition Dates: December 16, 2010 – January 7, 2011
Reception: Thursday, December 16, 2010, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
