Biogas attracts investors in Ukraine

Press release from: ZORG UKRAINE Ltd.
(openPR) - In course of 2010 in Ukraine the development rate of alternative energy industry has significantly increased due to investments from NAER, credits provided by IFC and EBRD, ratification of an agreement between Ukraine and NEFCO and, finally, the adoption of law “About the green tariff.”

Yet, Darya Revina, the head of Committee on ecological investments, alternative and renewable energy sources ICC Ukraine and Council of entrepreneurs within the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, is convinced that 2011 will prove to be more successful for the industry, since Ukrainian government plans to add new alternative energy sources to the list of energy sources applicable for “green tariff.”

Biogas is going to be among the newly added energy sources, applicable for “green tariff” rates, as the government plans to launch a country wide energy-efficient recycling of organic and solid waste. As estimated, on the average, a Ukrainian citizen produces 800 tons of waste per annum.

“Production of biogas requires substantial preliminary investment, thus green tariff rate for biogas will be higher than the rate adopted for biomass,” – commented the head of a Committee on ecological investments, alternative and renewable energy sources ICC Ukraine.

While hydropower industry projects are, in most cases, set in western regions of the country and solar-power industry initiatives – in southern regions, biogas production does not depend on region’s geographic properties.

“Each processing company faces the issues of waste management,” – commented the head of department of economics within national administration of Rivne region, Igor Tymoshenko. – A number of companies in the region are ready to start the construction of biogas plans, that provide waste-free production of energy and eliminate the expanses, related to waste management.”

Experts state, large agricultural companies in possession of cattle, poultry and milk farms receive maximum profit as biogas manufacturers.

“If a company builds a cattle farm without a biogas plant, the owners pay for a new gas line, power line, emergency diesel generators and waste tanks, which is enough for a custom-build biogas plant,” – said Igor Aksyutov, CEO of “ZORG Ukraine,” international manufacturer of biogas plant.

In 2010 the company developed an engineering plan for an alcohol producing plant in Tkhorivsk, Kiev region (Ukraine) and continued construction works on cattle farm in Mytrofanivka village, Kharkiv region (Ukraine), producing 12 thousands of cattle-heads per year.
