Press release from: Key-Systems

The internet and domain provider Key-Systems can look back on ten successful years as a registrar for domain names with generic extensions such as .COM, .NET and .ORG. Key-Systems is German based and runs an US subsidiary in Leesburg, VA. In October 2000 – just after the liberalization of the international domain extensions – Key-Systems was accepted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) as an official registrar. Currently, Key-Systems is the second largest ICANN registrar in Europe. The global comparison shows the company ranked on position 12.

St. Ingbert, 10-10-18. After the liberalization of the delegation process for generic domains in the fall of 1999, Key-Systems was one of the first registrars in Germany who successfully received an ICANN accreditation in 2000. Initially in October 1998 Key-Systems CEO Alexander Siffrin founded Key-Systems together with a fellow student as a collegiate small business. Meanwhile, the company employs 54 employees at three locations in Germany, USA and Mexico and is among the world's largest domain registrars.

Two of the Key-Systems’ success stories in the ten years since the ICANN accreditation stand out especially: In 2002, when the .INFO and .BIZ domains were introduced, more than 60 percent of pre-registrations from Key-Systems customers were successful. The success rate of the pre-registrations of Key-Systems customers during the .TEL domain sunrise in 2008 was 98 percent.

With an ICANN accreditation a company basically receives the right to register domain names under generic extensions. Besides the well known top-level domains (TLDs) .COM, .NET, .ORG and .INFO, an ICANN accredited registrar may also offer its customers TLDs such as .JOBS, .NAME, .TRAVEL, .TEL or .MOBI. However, the company must have an additional accreditation at the respective registry for the TLD.

As an ICANN registrar Key-Systems has immediate access to the registry systems and can directly edit customer orders. Currently, the company provides through its three portals domaindiscount24.com, RRPproxy.net and BrandShelter.com more than 200 generic and country-code top-level and second-level domain extensions for the fully automated registration, for example the American .US, the Indian .IN or the Brazilian .COM.BR.

Aero-domains with two and three letters

The aero-domain is the great exception: SITA has convinced ICANN to permit aero-domains consisting of two letters at certain conditions. Airlines or aircraft operator can register a specific aero-domain, which will be still more important in the future, when SITA is developping technical features as e.g. RFID. They can register the
