Perle Systems uses AAA Security for Media Converter Management
Press release from: Perle Systems
(openPR) - NASHVILLE, TN—September 21, 2010— Perle Systems, a global provider of advanced fiber to Ethernet and secure device networking solutions announces Media Converter Management using AAA ( Authentication, Authorization, Accounting ) Security.
Distributed security systems that protect networks and network services against unauthorized access are commonly deployed in large enterprise environments. This ensures control over who can connect to the network and what those users are authorized to do. It also maintains an audit trail of the user activity.
AAA protocols such as RADIUS and TACACS+ were created to address these issues. The AAA architecture gives legitimate users the ability to access networked assets while limiting unauthorized access.
“Perle has long standing experience in secure network access,” said John Feeney, COO of Perle Systems. “Providing equipment with RADIUS and TACACS+ to thousands of companies over many years has given Perle the expertise necessary to offer a best of breed managed media converter solution.”
Control over access to the management module in high density media converter applications is vitally important. The simple User ID / password implementation provided by some media converter vendors is not enough. Only media converter management modules that utilize the existing authorization schemes in the enterprise, such as TACACS+ or RADIUS, should be deployed. Thus, centralized control over who can access the management module, what level of authorization they have and the maintenance of an audit trail is possible.
Perle’s Managed Media Converter Modules include an extensive choice of full-featured solutions to connect 10BaseT, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet to fiber. Perle’s Lifetime Warranty, and the use of high-end components guarantees complete user satisfaction. And, all Perle Media Converters have an on-board microcontroller which deals with error detection and recovery.
Perle’s Media Converter Management Module supports all of the common authentication, authorization and accounting security schemes such as TACACS+, RADIUS, LDAP, Kerberos, NIS and RSA.
