Internet site part of Potton's new marketing strategy

Internet site part of Potton's new marketing strategy

Kimberly Nichols, Internet Marketing Consultant with WSI (wsimarketingstrategy.com), announces today the launch of its municipal website development project, potton.ca. The new portal in an integral part of Potton Township’s Internet marketing plan. Potton, a beautiful rural area among the foothills of the Eastern Townships of Quebec, has a high seasonal population and growing tourism industry.

The goal of the newly revamped website is improved communication with full and part time residents.
“The needs of visitors, residents (both full and part time) and businesses have been taken into consideration,” says Nichols. The latest technologies will be used to keep information flowing.

The mayor has been sending regular communiqués via email to Potton residents since before his election in November 2009. Now that the new website is live, he will be posting that information on both the home page and the “What’s New?” page of the site.

The site is divided into four key areas of interest: Living in Potton, Doing Business in Potton, Visiting Potton and Municipal Affairs. Each section contains relevant information and is cross-referenced where necessary, to facilitate finding information quickly. While the site is quite robust already, there is still more information to be added in the coming weeks, including a business directory.

In keeping with the communication theme, anyone can comment on the mayor’s blog posts and news items. Plans are underway to evolve the calendar into a community calendar where community organizations in the Potton region can easily add their own events, making the Potton website the one-stop place to find up-to-date information about activities in the area.

“Communication is certainly a primary reason we see businesses revamping their websites,” says Nichols, who set up shop in Mansonville over a year and a half ago. “It is not enough to only have a website. Consumers expect to be able to interact with your website and if they find your content is stale, they’ll go elsewhere with the click of a button. It is critical to think of your website as an online business integrating relevant Internet marketing strategies. This will optimize all avenues of your business, fulfilling both current and future needs.”

Beautiful scenery, a friendly country atmosphere, proximity to multiple ski and golf resorts and low taxes have contributed to the development of a relatively large seasonal population. In the past, part time residents have found it difficult to attend the monthly Monday night town council meetings. As a future solution, the mayor plans to implement a live video feed so that anyone can attend the council meetings from anywhere with a high speed Internet connection. Seasonal residents participating via the web will be able to send chat messages to ask questions and have their say on important issues.
