(openPR) - Hannover (2010-08-24). In future, certification that calls for the introduction of an independent maintenance management system will be required for owners of freight waggons. The owners are obliged to ensure that the freight waggons are maintained and to document their maintenance– which brings about extensive administration work. The new software P-Waggon-Manager from the Hanover-based software company HaCon makes this work much easier. For the first time, HaCon will present the software at the InnoTrans in Berlin from September 21 to 24 (hall 4.1a, stand 126).

In order to further improve the security of railway operations, the EBA (Eisenbahn-Bundesamt = federal railway authority) has issued some general directives. Among other things, these regulate the documentation of the history and the maintenance of freight waggon wheelsets: all owners of freight waggons and all railway companies are required to regularly collect, maintain and archive comprehensive data as well as provide these data to the supervisory agencies upon request. Should the owner change, the data must be turned over to the new owner. The traceability of the wheelsets' maintenance has been obligatory in all of Europe since 01 August 2010.

The data pool collected in P-Waggon-Manager makes it possible to trace all of the procedures that were carried out on the vehicle. For example, inferences about the manufacturing process of the wheelsets can be made. In case of material defects, details about the manufacturer, date of manufacture and cast number can be retrieved quickly and provided to the owners and railway companies.

The software supports users when applying specialist knowledge to the management process and thus making it easier to observe legal guidelines. A safety management system with notifications helps to keep inspection and maintenance deadlines. Additionally, the software helps collecting and exchanging data with partners, such as maintenance workshops and railway companies – all this in multi-user operation.

With the data and document management, any number of documents can be stored in a structured way and retrieved quickly by intelligent search and filter functions. The easy handling is due to the assignment of documents to vehicles, wheelsets, revisions, maintenance and tenancies. Configurable tables, the possibility to sage personal setting, synoptical tables and plausibility checks during the entry of data support the user in his daily routine.

The time and effort required for administration work can be considerably reduced with the software. The result is a user-friendly system that ensures the users are fulfilling their obligations and can prove it.
