"I was horrified by the details of the case recently heard in London," commented Adam. "This demonstrates how critical it is to ensure that parents use a reputable private tutor company that carries out deep background checks on potential tutors, including an enhanced CRB check as standard, before they even consider allowing the tutor into their home. Sadly we don't live in a world where personal recommendation is enough. The tutor in that case exploited the family's trusting nature and as a result, the two girls have been through a terrible ordeal."
"This only reinforces the statement I made recently regarding the need for parents to take care when reading reports on tutor attitudes towards stricter vetting procedures based on disreputable sources," Adam continued. "When a private tutor is hired without any vetting, the family is essentially bringing a stranger into their home and giving them regular contact with their children, without knowing for certain that the individual is as they appear. These two cases demonstrate the need for a system that helps private tutor companies to check these individuals are safe, and one that helps to reassure parents that they are not placing their children in danger," Adam explained.
