Solid Growth Trends of the European TV Market to Continue in 2010
Press release from: Dataxis
(openPR) - After a long period of relative stability, Western European TV sales started to take off by the end of 2006, spurred by the mass transition to flat screen TVs.
Although the growth did not follow the same pace across all Western Europe, most countries saw a huge uptake in their TV sales somewhere between 2006 and 2009, if not throughout all the period. In the U.K. for instance, after TV sales fell 1% in 2006, they soared 54% in 2007 to reach 7 million units according to Dataxis Intelligence. An annual growth of more than 20% over the past two years has helped British TV sales to cross the milestone of 10 million units in 2009. In France, growth rates has been more moderate throughout all the period, until 2009 where TV sales rose 27% to an all time high of 7.47 million units.
.
For 2010, outlooks remain bright in spite of the recessionary climate that reigns in the region. The World Cup, as well as the continued popularity of flat-screen TVs, which today have a household penetration rate of only 45% in Western Europe, will certainly help maintain strong growth levels in 2010.
