HAFAS app for the iPhone cracks the one million download mark
Press release from: HaCon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH
Hanover (2010-06-03) . End of May was the time: HAFAS mobile as an application for the iPhone reached a seven-digit number of downloads. Via the App Store from Apple passengers have downloaded HaCon’s mobile journey planner for the popular Smartphone more than a million times.
Most downloads recorded the “DB Navigator” for the iPhone by Deutsche Bahn AG (DB). Their passengers have transferred the application about 700,000 times on their Smartphones. In the first two weeks after its release in December 2009 the app reached the top of the German iTunes download charts.
About equal are the recent download numbers of CrossCountry Trains in the UK and Rejseplanen in Denmark. In each case, the mobile timetable for the iPhone offered by of these public transport companies amounts to about 115,000 requests. Another nearly 73,000 downloads are due to “SCOTTY mobil” – the timetable information system of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). In June last year, Austrian commuters were the first to download the HAFAS version for free in the iPhone App Store. The Danes and the British followed in July and October 2009.
30,000 downloads are the current assets of the iPhone journey planner provided by the high-speed alliance Railteam. Under its auspices the major European railway companies are assembled. Across borders, passengers are supplied with real-time information via "Railteam Mobile", since December also available for the iPhone.
With HAFAS Mobile for the iPhone, travellers have access to all the relevant travel information they need on trip: individual timetable information, departure boards, area maps, the nearest stops and stations. The application is fully customisable in look and feel and data coverage and can be tailored to individual customers' requirements. HaCon plans to release further versions soon.
HAFAS apps are successful not only for the iPhone. Also on other platforms HAFAS Mobile can be downloaded as an application: at BlackberryApp World, at Nokia Ovi Store and at Android™ Market.
Right from the start in 1984 HaCon has focused its activities on traffic and logistic solutions. A team of more than 120 experienced employees in the ranges of IT and transport planning have turned the company into one of the leading players in the field of planning, scheduling and information systems.
HaCon has developed and implemented the timetable information system of Deutsche Bahn (German Railways). Furthermore, numerous European railway companies, transport enterprises and/or groups use the timetable information system HAFAS. In addition, HAFAS serves as a universal information system. Therefore, it can be applied in the flight and goods traffic as well. Another successful product developed by HaCon is the Train Planning System TPS for timetable construction and network capacity management. It convinces more and more customers across Europe.
