Polish Free TV market sees a slight rebound in Q1 2010
Press release from: Dataxis
(openPR) - Polish Free TV market is starting to rebound, with leading commercial broadcaster TVN reporting upward sales trends. The company said its advertising revenue for Q1 was in line with pre-crisis levels.
TVN, which operates in digital satellite pay television and online as well, reported a net profit of 64 million zlotys ($20.5 million) in the first quarter of 2010, after it posted a net loss of 29 million zlotys in the same period last year.
Although the 8% revenue growth was highly driven by a 32% increase in the satellite pay TV sales, advertising revenue did return to growth, thanks to an increase in both volume and price.
The company reported a 2.7% rise in ad sales, which reached 264 million zlotys in Q1 2010, up from 257 million zlotys in the first three months of 2009.
It is interesting to note that with a 34% market share, TVN has led this slight rebound in the ad market in Q1. Polsat saw its market share in TV advertising go from 26% to 25%, while Poland’s public broadcasting corporation TVP held a 29% market share in Q1, compared to 32% during the same period last year.
The overall Polish free TV market recorded a +0.2% growth, reaching 780 million zlotys in Q1 2010, up from 779 million zlotys a year earlier.
