Berlin (May 4, 2010) – Michael R. Bloomberg will be the 2010 recipient of the annual Henry A. Kissinger Prize. The award ceremony will take place at the American Academy in Berlin on May 11, 2010.

Michael R. Bloomberg receives the annual Henry A. Kissinger Prize for his extraordinary contributions to meeting the challenges of globalization, whether as an innovator in the financial information industry, Mayor of New York City, or leading philanthropist engaged worldwide. “Michael R. Bloomberg’s accomplishments as philanthropist and public servant, as well as his dedication to transatlantic values make him an exemplary recipient,” Dr. Kissinger said. Both Dr. Kissinger and Michael R. Bloomberg will attend the ceremony at the American Academy in Berlin.

The Henry A. Kissinger Prize has been awarded annually since 2007 to an outstanding European or American citizen who has made a singular contribution to the transatlantic relationship. The inaugural recipient was former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt; former US President George H. W. Bush received the prize in 2008, followed in 2009 by Richard von Weizsäcker, former Mayor of Berlin and sixth President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The award is conferred in the spirit of Dr. Kissinger’s initiatives for a stronger transatlantic relationship during and after the Cold War.
