Goodash’s Images Create Endless Possibilities in Altered States of Reality at Agora Gallery

A fading and crumbling façade reveals a wizened ethnic face peering back at us. In the world of Israeli artist, Goodash, one never knows what to expect. His unique art form awakens us to endless possibilities; no matter where you are, there are remnants of those who trod the path there before you. He tries to make connections in the minds of his viewers, things are not as explicit as they may seem. "I want to offer more than one meaning, more than one possible scenario." Memory, time, and texture all play critical roles in the aesthetic of Goodash’s work, with a boundless creative energy at the helm. Goodash has dubbed his unique style as "photodrawing" since he often "paints" scenes with his camera, collaging his drawings into it whenever the message calls for it, adding a bit of digital magic if needed, and printing each work on a large scale canvas.
Goodash (a.k.a. Gideon Spiegel) lives and works in Tel Aviv.

Consumed with exploring our world as they uniquely see it, the artists in Agora Gallery’s “Altered States of Reality: an Exhibition of Analog and Digital Photography” use a myriad of visual vocabularies and technologies. Differing in method, these artists share in the passionate quest to articulate the moments often ignored in everyday life. Influenced by Surrealism and Abstractionism alike, these artists boldly investigate their psyches and natural surroundings. The results, at once harmonious, perplexing and alluring, take us on an inspirational visual journey.
