PBS and EMC introduce joint archiving solution

PBS ContentLink and EMC Celerra Unified Storage optimize storage of SAP data

Bensheim, March 11, 2010 – PBS ContentLink (PCL), a middleware software solution from PBS Software for reliable archiving of structured and unstructured SAP data, now offers a powerful, yet cost-effective solution for storing SAP data together with EMC Celerra Unified Storage.

The combined use of both tools offers SAP customers the highest possible flexibility for archiving thanks to its multiprotocol capability, integrated NAS, MPFS, iSCSI and FC connectivity and the combination of FC/SAS, SATA and flash drives. In addition, it can be easily integrated into SAP environments and is already available as a low-cost, entry-level model that addresses the lower terabyte region.

SAP archive data is stored directly inside the storage system via the SAP ArchiveLink interface. Retention periods can then be assigned to the data via PBS ContentLink. EMC Celerra Unified Storage, on the other hand, ensures that no data is deleted or modified during the retention period.

PBS ContentLink does not require a database of its own, is highly scalable, highly accessible and nearly maintenance-free. In addition, administration is managed directly inside the SAP system. The lean and scalable architecture ensures rapid transmission of data and extremely fast response times even with heavy loads. EMC Celerra Unified Storage, on the other hand, offers high efficiency by performing consolidation on the basis of a simple, high-performance and low-cost uniform storage platform. Used in combination, the two strong “lightweights” help lower the investment, operating and administration costs quite considerably. In addition, the new solution offers a wide variety of connectivity options and assists companies in executing their ILM (Information Lifecycle Management) strategies.
