Online shoppers generate donations to help fund research for Multiple Sclerosis cure

10-25-2006 10:29 PM CET | Associations & Organizations

Press release from: Shop2Cure, Inc.

A new website, www.shop2curems.org was launched on October 2, 2006 with the mission of raising money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society while increasing public awareness of the debilitating disease. "The website supports this mission by providing online shoppers the ability to generate donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through their every day online purchases without costing them a penny," explains Founder Robert Watson. "In fact, shoppers save money at many of their favorite online stores such as Amazon.com, Best Buy.com, Toys R Us.com, and Walmart.com by using the links on the site. The site donates to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society a percentage of each shopper's purchase made after clicking on the links and coupons provided. The website also accepts direct tax-deductible donations to help defray costs of maintaining the site.

According to Mr. Watson, the concept for the site was developed after his mother passed away in June, 2005 from complications arising from her long time battle with Multiple Sclerosis. "The National MS Society is the forerunner in funding research into the cause and cure of MS. I hope that through this website people will realize that they can help individuals and families who suffer from MS simply by clicking on these links when they make purchases at online merchants."

The website was launched in time for the holiday shopping season. Several categories of merchandise can be found through the merchants listed on www.shop2curems.org including electronics, computers, toys, books, clothing, and holiday specials. "We are adding more merchants every day and we ask users to let us know if they don't see what they are looking for. We can add just about any retailer that sells products on the internet" says Mr. Watson.
