Press release from: Advantech Co Ltd

Add-on Mezzanine Card Enables Dual Port 10 GbE

Advantech, a leading global manufacturer of telecom computing blades and multi-core network platforms, today introduced a new network mezzanine card compliant with the VITA XMC standard, the MIC-3666, enabling 10 gigabit Ethernet on a CompactPCI® form factor.

The add-on module, which primarily targets OEMs deploying Advantech's MIC-3393 CompactPCI® blade, complements the company's existing offerings of high performance blades with gigabit ethernet connectivity. The MIC-3666 is a low power, dual-port 10 GbE NIC, with SFP+ pluggable modules for multi-mode and single-mode fiber media and is based on the Intel® 82599ES 10 Gigabit Ethernet controller. The new XMC provides a high performance PCIe x8 interface at 5 Gb/s per lane at an outstanding low power dissipation of lessthan 10W. Support for Intel's latest offloading and platform enhancement features yields maximum network throughput while preserving valuable CPU cycles for application processing.

The MIC-3666 features an 82599 which provides Intel® Virtualization Technology for Connectivity (VT-c) including Virtual Machine Device Queues (VMDq) and PCI_SIG compliant Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV), helping to reduce I/O bottlenecks, boost throughput, and reduce latency. Where virtualization is required, VMDqs improve performance by offloading the data-sorting burden from the virtual machine manager (VMM) to the network controller. The MIC-3666's specialized features include Layer 2 & 3 security with IPSec & LinkSec; Intel® I/OAT Acceleration Technology v3.0; VLAN tagging, stripping and packet filtering; and TCP, iSCSI, and Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) offload.

This newlow-profile 10 GbE NIC enables the CompactPCI® ecosystem with the latest dual port 10 Gigabit technology. It instantly strengthens the CompactPCI® market's 10 GbE offering by equipping high bandwidth applications with optimized throughput and an extensive networking feature set.

“We see a continued demand for CompactPCI® in the market, especially in applications where customers are not yet ready to migrate to MicroTCA™ or where ATCA comes with too much overhead to migrate. By adding an XMC-based 10 Gigabit Ethernet option, Advantech continues to show a strong commitment to develop, deliver and support the CompactPCI® product line,” said Peter Marek, Director of Advantech's Blade Computing product division.

The MIC-3666 is available for customer sampling now, and will be ready for volume production in Q2 2010.
