Record Cold Weather and Heavy Winter Snow Highlights Need to Plan Ahead For Keeping Your Feet Warm

Press release from: LandscapeUSA, a division of MalloryCo
(openPR) - Follow these simple steps to help you plan ahead and keep your feet warm, dry and comfortable this winter season.

Portland, Oregon - 12/12/2005-

With record cold temperatures and heavy snows in many parts of the country this winter, planning ahead to keep your feet and other extremities warm becomes even more important than ever.

"The last thing anybody wants is to have cold, wet feet when they are working or playing outdoors," commented Tim Fahndrich, wholesale division manager for LandscapeUSA (www.landscapeusa.com). "Many of our customers in the landscape industry have no choice but to working outside clearing snow and doing other activities, so we try and provide them with the best solutions possible."

Here are some tips from Tim to help you keep your feet warm, dry and comfortable.

1. Plan ahead.
2. Use a layer system. Start with a pair of polypropylene, nylon or thin wool socks next to your skin which helps wick moisture away. Do not wear cotton. Cotton does not insulate and it traps moisture next to your skin. Next, add a pair of heavier wool socks for warmth.
3. Carry extra socks to change into should your feet get wet. If there is moisture trapped next to your skin your feet can lose heat up to 25 times faster.
4. Find a pair of insulated boots with a comfort rating of -10 to -40. They should be waterproof to keep water and snow out, but also provide insulation and breathability. Muck Boots™ from Muck Boot Company offer this capability in several styles. Their footwear is 100% waterproof, have a Breathable Airmesh™ lining that allows for breathability and wicking, and have excellent comfort. "Muck Boots™ have been a reliable answer for many of our customers, and help them stay warm, dry and comfortable no matter what the weather might be", stated Fahndrich.
5. If you are working in extreme cold or wet everyday, it is a good idea to have 2 pair of good boots and rotate each day to allow your boots to fully dry out from any moisture during their "off days".
6. Stay active but do not overexert.
7. If your feet get cold, put on a hat. Up to 50% of body heat is lost through the head. When you lose body heat, your body shuts off the blood to the extremities in order to keep your brain alive.

Following these simple guidelines will help you plan ahead, keep your feet warm, dry and comfortable this winter.

Tim Fahndrich is the wholesale division manager for LandscapeUSA (www.landscapeusa.com), a national supplier to the landscape industry and active garders. He has sold thousands of pairs of Muck Boots™ and consistently receives glowing testimonials as to warmth and comfort from his customers.
