(openPR) - Herzogenaurach, 02/04/2010 – WeWebU Software AG is now a member of the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) and its Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) Technical Committee (TC). With this step, WeWebU underlines its new strategy to position itself as an international, independent software maker for Enterprise Information Management (EIM).
The OASIS CMIS TC works to standardize a Web services interface specification that will enable greater interoperability of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems. CMIS uses Web services and Web 2.0 interfaces to enable rich information to be shared across Internet protocols in vendor-neutral formats, among document systems, publishers and repositories, within one enterprise and between companies. Thus CMIS will help separating applications from the ECM-platform and creating a great independence from single ECM vendors for customers.
According to a survey published by the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) more than 50% of the customers have more than ten repositories that could beneficially be linked or managed in one unified work environment. That is what OpenWorkdesk, WeWebU’s cutting-edge suite of EIM applications, already offers today for a wide range of ECM platforms. With the coming CMIS adapter, its user-friendly applications will be interoperable with almost every ECM system and usable even for almost every cross-repository scenario. The WeWebU OpenWorkdesk for CMIS will be available in the first half of 2010 with only short delay after the finalization of the CMIS specification by OASIS.
“The OASIS membership gives us two major advantages: On the one hand, we gain access to an important international technology network and will thus be able to actively participate in the formulation of CMIS, the future ECM Standard. On the other hand, it is another important milestone in realizing our growth strategy”, states Stefan Waldhauser, CEO of WeWebU Software AG. He expects a lot from CMIS: “CMIS will transform the ECM industry. 25 years after the breakthrough of the SQL database standard, CMIS will lead to a comparable boosted growth of the market for Content Enabled Applications. It will open the floodgates for innovative, content-centric applications that can be run on top of different ECM platforms.” Contrary to other standards, CMIS is backed by all major ECM players like IBM, EMC, Microsoft, Alfresco, SAPERION, SAP, and Open Text. Stefan Waldhauser is sure that all these vendors will support CMIS with their products: “Because they know that in a few years CMIS will be a key for successfully selling an ECM product. Or would you buy a database system today that couldn’t easily be accessed in a standardized way by various applications?”
