A new extraordinary addition to this New York boutique hotel
The Kimberly Hotel proudly reveals their greatly expected roof top lounge this 2010. Simply called Upstairs, this 3000 square foot space at Kimberly Hotel features 360 degree views, retractable glass ceilings and walls, ambient heated floors and a main room that guarantees to be as elegant and inviting in the winter months as it is sunny and stylish in the summer.
The Upstairs is designed by the AIA award winning New York design firm De-Spec together with The Kimberly Hotel Group. By taking the newly built express elevator from the street level one is lifted up to a spectacular urban oasis thirty stories above Manhattan. A multi-faceted mirror reflects the surrounding cityscape at every angle. Lighting designer Brian Orter interprets a fresh spin on old Hollywood-glamour by adding vintage theatrical lights and strings of incandescent bulbs that float overhead releasing an intimate mood. Furthermore, Upstairs’ furnishings were carefully chosen by renowned houses such as B&B Italia, Knoll and Moooi.
Executive Chef Gwenael Le Pape has teamed up with Jean-Georges Vongerichten and celebrity Chef Anthony Bourdain, creating an eclectic array of small plate offerings. Raised in Brittany, Chef Gwen has cooked not only all over his motherland - France, but in cities like Miami and New York. Recently he gained three and a half stars for the South Beach eatery under his direction. In addition to food, the bar will present various cocktails from classic to more sophisticated ones. For example The Pomme d’Or made with Hennessey VSOP, Poire Williams, organic apple cider with lemon and clove.
