Taipei international book fair boasts new exhibitor record

Press release from: Presseabteilung Taipeh Vertretung
(openPR) - The Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) 2010, which runs from January 27 to February 1 at the Taipei World Trade Center, is hosting exhibitors from nearly 60 countries—a record high for the trade show. One million titles in Chinese and foreign languages will be on display. In addition, around 400 seminars and forums on digital publication and book design, as well as book signings, will be held during the six-day fair.

In recognition of Guest of Honor France, the TIBE is hosting a multitude of special exhibitions and activities featuring French art and culture. The Bureau International de l’Edition Française, the French Ministry of Culture and the French National Library have jointly put together an exhibition of over 2,000 of the latest French publications in the French Pavilion. While the French National Library is offering replicas from its documents collection, the Balzac Museum will present an exhibition showcasing a selection of the works of French photographer Robert Doisneau. In addition, director Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s documentary “6 Billion Others” will be screened on the sidelines of the 18th TIBE.

Among the other activities planned is the attendance of writers from Chinese-speaking communities around the world. Authors invited include Ha Jin from New York, Guo Xiaolu from London, Li Zishu from Malaysia, Bi Feiyu and Liu Zhenyun from mainland China, Li Chang-sheng from Japan, as well as Chan Koon Chung, Ma Ka Fai and Leung Man Tao from Hong Kong. They will hold discussions with Taiwanese writers in the hope of stimulating the fermentation of new story lines that incorporate elements from their disparate backgrounds and creative environments.

“The Reading Corner: Taiwan’s Literary Scene” pavilion will employ a creative combination of words and graphics taken from selected scenes from the life and works of Taiwan’s most representative writers. Works by 15 wordsmiths will be on display, including those of Wang Tuo, Kenneth Pai, Chung Chao-cheng, Lai Ho, Chu Hsi-ming, Li Chiao, Li Ang, Hsiao Li-hung, Tsai Su-fen, Yang Kui, Chung Li-ho, Yeh Shih-tao, Huang Chun-ming, Wang Chen-ho and Chu Tien-wen.

“Digital Publication @ TIBE,” a pavilion put together by the Taiwan Digital Publishing Forum, will showcase the broad variety of forthcoming digital publications. Here in the “experience zone,” visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with electronic publications by trying out a number of digital reading devices such as mobile phones, e-readers and netbooks.

The Comics Pavilion is a celebration of comics and anime. It throws the spotlight on comic books, illustrated books, light novels, video games, character voices and cosplay, giving fans of such genres the opportunity to live out their fantasies.
