HALCON Embedded Runs on the Beagle Board

Press release from: MVTec Software GmbH
The Beagle Board is a low cost and low power consumption platform. HALCON Embedded runs with a good performance.
The Beagle Board is a low cost and low power consumption platform. HALCON Embedded runs with a good performance.
(openPR) - MVTec Software GmbH, München (Germany), took initial performance measurements with the machine vision library HALCON 9.0 running on the Beagle Board using Ångström Linux as operating system.

For testing HALCON Embedded running on a Beagle Board (beagleboard.org/), MVTec initially ported HALCON 9.0 and subsequently checked its ability to run with success. Thus, typical image processing algorithms with HALCON like filtering or blob analysis can be performed on the Beagle Board in some milliseconds. Even subpixel-precise measurements are possible in less than one millisecond.

These results show that applications based on HALCON can successfully be built on the Beagle Board platform. Customers are welcome to discuss their requirements with MVTec in order to customize HALCON Embedded accordingly.

The Beagle Board is an ultra-low cost, high performance (laptop-like), low power consumption, OMAP3 based platform designed by BeagleBoard.org community members. The OMAP3530 processor from Texas Instruments is based on ARM® Cortex™-A8 core running with 500 MHz.

About HALCON Embedded
HALCON Embedded means HALCON running on a special platform. HALCON is portable to various microprocessors/DSPs, operating systems, and compilers. HALCON Embedded lets exploit the power of the comprehensive machine vision library HALCON by MVTec on embedded systems. HALCON Embedded enables the development of the software part of a machine vision application on a standard platform and thereby greatly eases the programming of an embedded system. Short said: Development is done on a PC, while the application runs on an embedded system.

About MVTec
MVTec is a leading manufacturer of standard software for machine vision. MVTec products are used in all demanding areas of imaging: Semi-conductor industry, web inspection, quality control and inspection applications in general, medicine, 3D vision, and surveillance. MVTec has more than 30 established distributors, located throughout Europe, North and South America, Australia, and Asia (China, Japan, Korea, India et al.). In addition, MVTec, LLC works out of Boston, MA (USA), to better attend the North American market since 2007. For more information refer to www.mvtec.com
