digital publishing scoops up first US award
Munich, January 2010. In the closing days of 2009, digital publishing, a leader in web-based language learning solutions, was honored with the LearnTrends Innovation Award 2009 for the online language learning platform CLT Plug&Learn. dp captured the award at the LearnTrends conference, an online conference that spans the globe and is run by some of the US’s leading industry names, including Jay Cross, Tony Karrer and George Siemens among others. The LearnTrends Innovation Awards are designed to recognize “products, projects, and companies that represent significant innovation in Corporate/Workplace Learning and Performance.” dp’s online language school, CLT, is a global platform for web-based language training both in the corporate world and for academic institutions; it combines all the advantages of web-based learning and face-to-face training in one innovative solution. In presenting the award, Jay Cross said, “CLT Plug&Learn is a very interesting blended-language learning course combining learning software with extensive online tutoring and regular (virtual) classroom training.” The system is framed by a placement test, a Kick-Off meeting and a final test. Based on the results of the placement test, students are offered a language course designed to meet their goals. During the self-study phase, students practice their writing, reading, listening, comprehension and pronunciation skills with the language software. A tutoring team assists students via e-mail. They receive a weekly e-mail with an assignment, additional writing exercises, motivational and technical tips as well as personalized feedback based on the self-study results. Which have been recorded in the Learning Management System.
CEO and co-founder of digital publishing Armin Hopp said, “We are particularly proud about the fact that this award focussed on innovation in the field of learning. Our main focus has always been to provide the most innovative language learning solutions that meet the needs of our clients and students. This award once again shows that we are on the right track.”
